Hi God,
I’m thinking about families today;
how they mark the progression of time.
First my mother turns 100,
then my father-in-law turns 90,
and today, my brother turns 70.
Next week, Brewster turns 10.
What’s up with all the numbers ending in zero?
Even I’ll get into the act—sort of—
when I turn 0×040 in a few months.
(they say you have a sense of humor;
does that even extend to geek jokes?)
Anyway, I want to thank you for families.
They give us a daily lesson in interconnectedness,
in learning compromise on competing agendas,
and also a reminder of the ephemeral nature of life.
Also, please have mercy on my soul,
sinner though I continue to be,
for almost 0×040 years now.
Amen
